Debate Initiative: More than 12,000 students from 90 District schools actively participate in debate. Debate is offered at 100% of BCPS middle and high schools, and is expanding to elementary schools, technical colleges and alternative education centers.

Digital Classroom: With focus on providing a one-to-one student to computer ratio, BCPS is creating curriculum content that fits students’ individual needs to maximize learning.

Scholastic Chess: BCPS is the largest school district to offer scholastic chess to all second and third grade students. The First Move Chess program is a partnership with America’s Foundation for Chess teaching critical and creative thinking skills through the game of chess.
